Deeptime Network

Where a Deeptime Perspective Empowers Evolution
Hi subscriber,

Tomorrow, in the US we celebrate Thanksgiving, though in a far more subdued way this year with the Covid surge. We can expand our thanksgiving, wherever we are, to giving thanks for deeptime and our Earth matrix. This poem comes to us from Network member Lauren de Boer, former editor of Earthlight Magazine, composer, and pianist. Thank you Lauren! Enjoy everyone!

Thanks Giving

We give thanks for all the ways we are fortunate and strong;
and when our luck grows thin, or we are frail,
for the way others uphold us with their gifts.

We give thanks for moments of flow and grace,
and for the hard and stuck moments
and how they help us die into renewal.

We give thanks for the blessing of family and friends,
for the company of others;
for the delight of difference, and the solace of solitude.

We give thanks for the light of day,
and when we are weary of day,
the way night comes like a kind
stranger with its calm moon and its balm of sleep.

We give thanks for the soil, for Earth’s bounty of food,
and for the labor of those who grew it; and when
we hunger in other ways, for the way we are
fed by a poem, a tune, a smile, a touch.

We give thanks for domesticity and home;
and when we need to be quickened
and our blood stirred,
for the glory and trials of wild nature.

We give thanks for our long story, for the aeons
of creativity that brought us here,
and for the stars of night
that remind us of how we’ve come to be here.

We give thanks for our home, this Earth,
whose turning carries us through the days
and whose seasons returning remind us
of our own life’s seasons, and of who we are.

We give thanks for the air we breathe, how it charges
our blood and our minds;
for the fire in our hearts
which kindles our courage again and again;
for the water that flows through valleys and in our veins.

Thanks for the eagle, the wren, the sea turtle, the elm;
for mountain, forest, and prairie;
for all the planet’s varied life,
who, were they to depart,
would leave a great loneliness inside.

We give thanks for all, and to all.

In praise of all that lives, grows, and has its being.

We give thanks...
