Honor and celebrate the ongoing work of becoming who we are called to be
Stonehenge (c. 3000–2000 BCE): An extraordinary expression of humanity’s early relationship with the cosmos, aligned with the Sun’s annual journey and serving as a place of ceremony, community, and wonder.
This book emerged from years of shared inquiry, practice, and community within the Deeptime movement. It explores a simple yet profound question: How do we live as conscious participants in an evolving universe?
Drawing on evolutionary wisdom, contemplative practice, ritual, and everyday experience, Becoming the Change offers pathways for aligning our lives with the creative dynamics that have shaped the cosmos from the beginning. Through the lens of evolutionary cosmology and spirituality, the book invites us to recognize and cooperate with the deeper currents of emergence already moving through our lives, communities, and world.
Searching for resilience and direction in this time of ecological crisis, cultural turmoil, and profound possibility? This book beautifully weaves ancient wisdom, contemporary science and lived spiritual practice together, and is a unique resource guide that reminds us who we are within a living, evolving Cosmos. Designed for individuals, families, and communities seeking ways of participating in the emerging future.
Packed full of an array of wonderful ideas for various occasions, reflections and activities, Becoming the Change is a fabulous collection of seasonal celebrations and rites of passage for holidays, holy days and eco-anxious days to reconnect with the Earth-community. It is a call beyond separation, and offers deep inspiration for creativity and courage – an invitation to join the dance unfolding in, through, around, and as us.
Celebrate the Equinox
As we gather near the Autumn Equinox—a moment of balance between light and darkness—we will also share in a simple community ritual inspired by the themes of the season and the practices explored in the book. Together, we will pause to honor where we are in our individual and collective journeys, reflect on what is ripening in our lives, and renew our commitment to participating in the unfolding future of our Earth community.

Whether you have been part of the Deeptime Network for many years or are newly discovering this work, you are warmly welcome.
This gathering is more than a book launch. It is an opportunity to celebrate a growing body of evolutionary practice, reconnect with the larger story of the universe, and explore together what it means to become the change our times are calling forth.
We hope you will join us for this joyful celebration of community, emergence, seasonal renewal, and shared becoming.
“…path-breaking, it is paradigm-shifting.” ~ Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim.
“…ritual magic that will change our world.” ~ Brian Thomas Swimme.
“…exactly what our moment demands – rituals that rewild our souls and ceremonies that remember us back into the cosmic web of life we never actually left.” ~ Victoria Loorz, Church of the Wild.
“By grounding scientific understanding in lived practice, this book offers pathways toward meaning, resilience and responsibility in a spectacularly transforming world.”
– Jennifer Morgan, Co-founder and President, Deeptime Network
Carol Kilby – received a Masters of Divinity from Emmanuel College at the University of Toronto in 1991 and a Doctor of Ministry at the University of Creation Spirituality in 2004. In this time of such rapid conscious evolution, however, she knows herself as an evolutionary, futurist, One-Universe Storyteller, writer of celebrations and laments to aid our becoming the cocreators of the Ecozoic era we were born in this time to be.
Once introduced to the New Cosmology, Carol stepped out of ordained congregational ministry in the United Church of Canada to found the Gaia Centre for Eco-Spirituality and Sustainable Work in 2005. “It was my response both to our deep time, all-inclusive story and to the looming reality of Global Warming.” She documents this transformation in her first book, Evolutionary Dancer – Out, In, and On-the-Fringe of the Church; a tribute to six evolutionary teachers, her cosmological take on the Christian Seasons, and samples of reframed rituals.
With many more ritual celebrations to be shared, Kilby began her next book. After taking the Network’s Deep Time Leadership Program, where she met Steve Martin, and the Cosmogenesis Program with Brian Thomas Swimme, she felt affirmed; her part in the Great Work was as a writer of Evolutionary Rituals. Today, with exciting cosmic commentaries by Steve Martin, we are celebrating, Becoming the Change – Evolutionary Rituals and Practices for Everyday Emergence.
Kilby resides on the Scarborough bluffs on the north shore of Lake Ontario in Toronto, Canada with her partner Paul Irwin and the purr’fect Gracie. She is a mother, grandmother, great-great Auntie, and evolutionary elder.
Stephan Martin is an astronomer, educator, and cosmic guide who has taught astronomy, physics, and consciousness studies at colleges, universities, and learning centers across the United States for more than thirty-five years. Through his work as Director of the Deeptime Leadership program at the Deeptime Network (http://www.dtnetwork.org ) and other organizations, he helps cultivate transformative learning experiences that support innovative leadership and a flourishing future for all life.
Stephan leads workshops, retreats, lectures, and contemplative stargazing experiences that bring the insights of modern cosmology into conversation with everyday life. His work explores how scientific understanding, collective inquiry, and lived experience can deepen our sense of belonging within an evolving universe.
He is the author of Cosmic Conversations (2010) and Living a Cosmic Life (2018), co-author of Becoming the Change (2026, with Carol Kilby), and of the forthcoming Traveling in the Shadow of the Moon (January 2027). Together, his books invite readers to align their lives with the creative unfolding of the cosmos and participate more consciously in our shared evolutionary journey.
