I wanted to let you know that Global Generation recently won a TVE Global Sustainability Film Award at BAFTA in London for the two films that we have posted in our resources. We won the community investment category, when the judge awarded the prize he said, These two films are all about young people finding their place within a 14 Billion year story.
This is what we wrote in the competition entry: In 1949 Aldo Leopold wrote of a land ethic that enlarges the boundaries of community to include soils, waters, plants, animals and humans. This film couplet i.e. 2 complimentary but different films show how, thanks to in-kind donations, financial support and hands on participation of Argent (King’s Cross developers), associated construction companies Kier, Carillion and BAM and local businesses Eurostar and The Guardian newspaper, educational charity Global Generation is growing a socially and environmentally responsible community in the heart of one of Europe’s largest construction sites, which is in King’s Cross, London. This is a creative community based upon the fact everyone and everything is connected. A grassroots version of Brian Cox’s Human Universe, this 2 minute trailer and 8 minute film about a two week ‘Big Bang summer school’ gives the audience an uplifting view of how the latest scientific discoveries about our universe can provide deep meaning and purpose to the lives of children and young people, and most importantly it can bring very diverse parts of an emerging urban community together in the understanding that none of us are separate… we are all made of the same stuff: stardust!
