Occasionally I have to work in a rougher neighborhood in Philadelphia (Olney District) at the Methadone clinic run by the Human Services Non-Profit where I work. I was recently wondering how the Cosmic story might be applied to everyday life and potentially address the struggles and traumas that seem so prevalent in this part and many other areas of Philly.
As I was leaving work and heading for the train one day, I came upon this mural on a
side-street that really captured the essence of both the problem in this neighborhood as well as a potential application of the Cosmic story. Many of the streets are dirty and littered, there’s high unemployment and poverty here as well – What seems missing in many people I meet here is the ability to genuinely say to themselves the following phrase “I Matter” and be convinced of the truth. The artist seems to be showing us what happens when we combine our hearts with the deep knowing that “I Matter” — a transformed world filled with heart potentially emerges according to this artistic arithmetic.
