Yesterday, I gave two programs — on Cosmic Education and Storytelling — at a conference for Montessori teachers, sponsored by the Barrie Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies (Silver Spring, MD), and attended by 500 teachers. Pictured here with Hilary Green, director of the Institute. One memorable moment, among many, was when a teacher expressed her concern that teaching Cosmic Education was like opening a “Pandora’s Box” in that it’s so captivating that teachers can forget to do all the things they’re supposed to do, like teaching to the Core Curriculum. Along with the other teachers in the program, we were able to talk about teaching the cosmic story actually makes teaching the core curriculum much easier in that it deeply engages students and spurs them to want to know more.

    • Hi Jennifer,
Really great that you are reaching so many teachers! The memorable moment is an important one I think. However, I think its worth questioning – ‘What actually is the Core Curriculum?’ and ‘What actually is Cosmic Education’? For me ‘Cosmic Education’ actually is the Context within which everything abides. So we won’t forget the Core Curriculum. We’ll find a way within this vast perspective to give it its due.
      Thanks for the great work.

      • I couldn’t agree with you more Rod. Within the cosmic context, everything comes together and makes sense, and its so inspirational for the students. The videos of your work really show how this is true.
