Meditation for Children 10 years ago
Can meditation/mindfulness/sitting still provide more ‘space’ for children to receive and explore the Universe Story? In my experience it can. About 6 years ago I started meditating with my class of 9 year olds ( there were about 30 of them) and I found that we soon started to develop a liking to being still and silent. We sometimes followed this with powerful and profound talks about the cosmos! In my class we always called the activity ‘Sitting Still.’ This is because I feel that the word ‘meditation’ can act as a red light for some. I’ve never had a problem with other teachers, Head Teachers, adults or children by referring to the activity as ‘Sitting Still.’ In any case who can complain about children simply sitting still?I’m curious if others have tried this ancient practice with children and how it has gone? Or is going? I’ve made a group for any who would like to explore this topic further. Look forward to hearing from you if you are interested. All the best,Rod
