    Cosmic Walking in Czech Republic

In July 2019 art historian Jirka Zemanik and I gave a 5 day seminar in the Czech Republic called “Living a Cosmic Life: Cosmology as a Way of Transformation.” The program was the summer gathering of the Czech ecological organization Pilgrim – The Walking University of Nature and attracted over thirty members from across the country to our mountain lodge in the Bedsky Mountains in the eastern Czech Republic. We explored the teaching and writings of Thomas Berry, Brian Swimme, and other writers and also undertook a long Cosmic Walk one afternoon, telling the story of the universe over 13.8 km of beautiful hills, forests, and cultural centers, with each kilometer representing 1 billion years of cosmic evolution. It was a wonderful experience to feel the immensity of time in our bodies, and to have time to have conversation and digest the events we were exploring in-between timeline stops. Everyone enjoyed the process of walking and learning the universe story together, and we will likely repeat this experience at next year’s seminar as well.

    • Stephen, That is such a beautiful way of experiencing the universe story – outdoors!! It is edifying to hear that we have brothers and sisters in the Czech Republic.
