Christogenesis, Part 5: The Spiritualization of Consciousness
by Joe Masterleo
The whole of life lies in the verb seeing — Teilhard de Chardin
Cosmogenesis is an unfolding story that is both science and art, material and spiritual, qualia and quanta, where generative energy = generative healing, whole-making and love, an overlapping energy and information field in which all things consist, swaddle, and cohere. Together they combine to form the whole of creation.
In cosmogenesis each step already anticipates the next. Beyond noogenesis it is important to underscore that the christogenic stage of Teilhard’s cosmogenic model begins with spiritual awakening, Christ/Omega as personalized Light, which involves the spiritualization of consciousness. Here, by proposing light is within matter, science and spirituality finally converge. This stage differentiates it from the previous one, noogenesis, which primarily entails the dawning conceptual (mental) recognition, insight, and awareness of an interconnected universe. It also differentiates it from the stages that follow, Christogenesis and Omega, which involve evolutionary breakthroughs in spiritual transformation and transfiguration processes respectively, later detailed.
Seeing in Nested Wholes (or holarchies)
The observation of creation as an undivided whole as conceived by the senses and mind neither implies nor requires the affirming experience of same (Oneness) in consciousness as a felt-sense. It merely reflects one way of apprehending the whole, later underscoring the difference between knowledge and knowing, head and heart (intuition), spirit and psyche via those discriminating modalities of understanding. But spiritual awakening creates and establishes unitive consciousness which accelerates a deeper understanding of how the parts (holons) work together in a nested whole (holarchy) in the interior of things.
In holarchies, invisibly small things comprise and create progressively larger and more visibly complex things culminating in larger wholes. In human organisms, uncreated light (radial) —> created light (tangential) –> plasma —> atoms —> molecules —> organelles —> cells —> tissues —> organs —-> organ systems —> organisms —> ecosystems —> social systems —-> global systems —> cosmic systems, etc. Each individual part (holon) connects to other parts (holons) that combine to form even larger interconnected wholes (holarchies) in the universe.
Cosmogenic evolution of the human species likewise unfolds micro to macro, but takes place over deep time, an evolutionary process that occurs over eons. The unfolding extends and enlarges the holarchy of our species at least three stages beyond Homo spiralis, sapiens in complexity consciousness, charting it along a bio-electrographic spectrum of oscillating light energy as on a dimmer switch, detailed in what follows. Creation consists entirely of one essence in many parts and innumerable forms, inmost and penetrating all things. The panpsychic energy, frequency, and vibrational power that made the body also heals, transforms, and ultimately transfigures it. As every part of fire is fire, every part of creation is in or exists as part of this energy, inside and out, totally in each thing.
This approach to cosmogenesis is marked by full-access knowing. Such knowing is comprehensive in scope, involving an awareness that is at once rational, trans-rational, intuitive, and dual-natured in its operations. These dualities come together in a singularity, the nexus or “sweet spot” where energy and matter meet and spin-spiral in generative, electromagnetic counter-rotating energy fields (phi-spirals). These overlapping fields create and form larger wholes from their union in the singularity requiring a new physics (Teilhard’s “ultra physics”) to understand them. (see the Teilhard’s Mystical Bridge blog entry). These new concepts help us understand how complex systems operate “under the hood” of the visible world, and to examine how their dynamisms play out in interconnected layers at all scales, rather than in isolated parts.
Spiritual Breakthroughs and Cosmogenic Staging (evolution from 1.0 —> 2.0 —> 3.0)
Spiritual formation starts with a conscious breakthrough of the spiritual “energy” that creates, unites, inhabits, shapes, and does the work in transforming and reorganizing psyche, mind, and brain from their natural states on the way to their ultimate flowering in Omega (3.0). Omega is the final evolutionary stage where spiritual energy centrates, interiorizes and intensifies, packing tightly around the vortex of its spiral’s center. This highest level of energy centration, this light intensity totally transfigures psyche, mind, and body (matter) into itself as pure uncreated light irrespective of culture, religion, the variety of religious experiences, forms, and practices. For those wanting to skip the in-between details, this trans-religious spiritual process is outlined and summarized in the last section of this column.
Any synthesis discussion on this subject necessarily touches on the physics (substance) of this transformable energy, its unfolding expression in human psycho-spiritual development, and its relationship to the identity and selfhood of evolving humans. Here it is referenced in three differentiated stages Homo spiralis, sapiens, Homo spiralis, elektor, and Homo spiralis, omega owing to the energy and interiorization dynamics (light intensities) and cosmic architecture (spirals) that combine to create, co-create, and renew all things from their interior universally. The substance of this energy is referenced in this ongoing series on the Christogenic and Omega stages of cosmogenesis, detailed in prior DTN blog entries, and in my book. Its universal relationship to psycho-spiritual development, identity, and selfhood will be detailed below, and by referencing both the diagram and video resource box above.
Disambiguation and Bi-stable Equilibrium (distinguishing two or more convergent entities)
Determining the essence of one’s identity and selfhood is complex, an exercise in interior awareness and discernment. This personal inventory involves disambiguation, a sorting out process similar to separating chaff from wheat, iron filings from sawdust, or foreground from background in a photo or landscape. Or like in the image above, when delineating two separate images or entities ambiguously mixed together — in this instance occurring in a bi-stable image, which depending on focus appears to the naked eye as either fish or birds.
In the interior life, the disambiguation process separating psyche from spirit can only be discriminated or discerned in a spiritually awakened person, who with third-eye vision can see them as distinct but not separate. Interiorly, the challenge of distinguishing psyche from sprit is similar to distinguishing the ambiguity of the fish and fowl image above, where both creatures depicted ambiguously can be perceived as two facets of single picture whose images (fish or birds) can be observed separately, but not at the same time owing to perceptual limitations.
When looking at the picture above, the bird images collapse and becomes background when the fish images becomes the primary (foreground) focus and conversely. In ordinary or natural perception both cannot be visualized at the same time as the brain interprets it. A view of one image finds the other invariably collapsed (temporarily eclipsed), taking a “back-seat” to the one seen as foreground.
The reason for this is neurological, as the human brain cannot perceive two facets of a bi-stable image (or dual-aspect monad) at the same time, because the two potential interpretations are mutually exclusive at the neurological level. Bi-stable means having two stable states (1.0)(2.0), centers, or conditions, where a system can rest in either state, requiring an external trigger to move to the other. Common examples are a light switch (on/off), or a computer’s flip-flop memory.
An uncommon example is the seamless co-presence of spirit and matter in the created order and corporeal bodies, or spirit and soul (psyche) in the interior life of humans. Both spirit and matter and spirit and soul (spirit-soul) are bi-stable states. Bi-stability is a property where a system has two or more equilibrium points, allowing them to remain in one state or another concurrently until disturbed. Multiple equilibrium points are common in electronics, physics, and biology (neurons), but are not commonly identified in the shifting equilibrium points of spirit and soul. Teilhard understood them operating as two equilibrium points or centers in the inner life, annexing them via hyphen as “spirit-soul.” A circle or entity cannot have two centers, unless that center lies in two or more dimensions (is coaxial), one in space-time (kronos), the other in eternal time (kairos); or existing in several dimensions at once sharing a singularity, like in the multi-verse theory of physics that proposes parallel universes.
Again, though annexed the inability to see spirit and body or spirit and soul (psyche) as distinct is a constitutional limitation in humans found in the brain, not the eye or mind. The brain naturally sees them as incompatible in its interpretation mechanisms that enforce a singular conscious experience in perception, “tricking” the eye and mind into following suit. Ironic, in that science supports the notion of ancient religious teachings that declare natural perception and thought as insufficient and unreliable in comprehending the whole, and the God-of-the-Whole that embeds in it.
Dual-aspct Monads (the role of light and gravity)
Paralleling Teilhard’s synthesis work, physicist Wolfgang Pauli and psychologist Carl Jung (1946-58) developed a coaxial duality hypothesis toward solving the mind-body problem, today known as dual-aspect monism. The Pauli-Jung hypothesis conjectured a picture in which the mental and material arise as two complementary aspects of one underlying psychophysically neutral reality to which they can’t be reduced, and to which direct empirical access is impossible. Their work suggests that the domain of the physical is not completely independent of the domain of the mental, and both are not independent from the assumed reality (spiritual) underlying them. (In my paradigm, all three are the same energy in different vibrational frequencies, highest to lowest expressed as spirit-soul-body).
Brain and mind don’t naturally acknowledge bi-stable images, otherwise known as dual-aspect monads like light and gravity, spirit and matter, or spirit and psyche because it perceives them as not only separate but contrary. The core idea of dual-aspect monads posits that there is only one fundamental substance or “ground of being,” not two separate realms like mind and matter, spirit and matter, or light and gravity. But for the natural limitations of the brain and spiritually untransformed mind and psyche, they would be experienced and perceived as one and undivided.
Each dual-aspect monad is a counter-rotating pair composed of apparent opposites that generate energy, information, and give life and balance to all things. My cosmogenic model proposes, with scientific evidence, that creation itself is a dual-aspect monad of visible and visible, material and spiritual dimensions whereby dual aspect monads like light and gravity operate as radiant push-pull forces (light waves) in the heart of matter. These forces meet in a singularity, where their counter-rotational spin “spits out” (creates) new holons in their propagating union that counterbalance each other at all scales. In spirit-science terminology, these counter-rotational forces and generative spin-spiraling energy dynamics comprise and define the God-of-the-Whole who manifests and masks as creation itself from quark to quasar.
Spin and spiral dynamics are observable at all scales of the universe. Electromagnetic radiation (light) is mechanically connected to space-time curvature (gravity) and spin in dual-aspect monads, requiring Einstein’s relativity theory to be amended to entangle spin-spiraling energy generation and rotation. As the heartbeat and lifeblood of the universe, the continuous cycle of expansion and implosion, push and pull, “inhalation and exhalation,” diastole and systole pulsations of energy involve generative spin-spiraling vortexes at all levels; from atoms to planets to stars to galaxies to human spirit-soul interconnectivity in psycho-spiritual and cosmogenic evolution.
In the new physics, I propose that the universal constants light and gravity are the two defining spirit-science aspects of the God-of-the-Whole in cosmogenic evolution, which makes them dual-aspect monads. These two cosmic forces merit centrality in synthesis on two counts, scientific and religious. Scientific, because they are the only two constants in the universe, the latter considered an effect of the former. And religious, because light carries energy, appears as energy, and operates as an energizing agent described in the ancient scrolls, experienced first-hand in spiritual regeneration and renewal. Light is the universal religious symbol and metaphor for God (Spirit) and spiritual consciousness, central to the creation and spiritual enlightenment stories of the world’s major religions. Both light (as energy), and the presence of mass/energy formed by light, (which creates gravity) interact with space-time, central to how the fabric of the universe (space-time) behaves.
Each cosmogenic stage of development occurs in three-dimensional space (3D) as well as in time (4D), time being the fourth dimension in our Jigsaw Method of composing a spirit-science synthesis. Both space (3D) and time (4D) nest in a dual nature light-gravity field (5D). Combined, all five components tell an updated New Story in 5D, inclusive of all things as delineated in Part 4 of this series.
Consciousness: The Interior Face of Light-in-Evolution (1890–2026)
Light in pure form has no mass or substance, yet it is the origin of all created form as revealed in Genesis 1:3, intuited by Telsa in the 1890’s, proven mathematically by Einstein in 1905, and supported by Lamatrie’s Big Bang cosmology in 1927. In between were Whitehead (1920’s) and Hartshorne (1940-70’s), the former describing reality as an unfolding process, and the latter articulating a vision of the divine as deeply responsive and evolving with the world. Teilhard (1930’s-50’s) extended these discoveries seeing light as consciousness-in-evolution, reasoning that if matter is energy, and energy complexifies, then consciousness is latent from the beginning. That is, consciousness is not added later; it is the interior face of cosmic light energy implying a spirit-science nexus: Light –> Energy –> Matter –> Life –> Thought –> Spirit. Following Teilhard, eco-theologian Thomas Berry (1978) advocated for a new science-based creation story (eco-theology) based on that sequence, viewing the universe as a sacred, evolving community. And recently, physicist Federico Faggin proposed that consciousness is not a byproduct of the brain, but the fundamental essence from which the material universe emerges. That is, internal reality that shapes and informs external reality, confirming the notions of Tesla, Einstein, and Teilhard that the Source of all createde life (tangential energy) emerges from the “withing of things” (radial energy) at the heart of matter.
Mapping the evolutionary arc chronologically re: the central role of light in creation and consciousness, Tesla felt it (1890’s), Einstein proved it (1905) Lemaitre proposed it (1927), Pauli and Jung (1946) hypothesized it, Teilhard extended it (1930’s-50’s), Berry consecrated it (1978), and Faggin supported it (2020-2026).
But it was Teilhard who brought these insights together in into a single evolutionary story we can no longer avoid: the universe is waking up, igniting light into matter, matter into mind, and mind into consciousness and love. And evolution is the fire that drives all things toward a single radiant convergence of mind, love, and unity in Omega, where spirit and science burn as one. In this view, spirit and science are not opposing forces, but complementary ways of understanding a universe awakening from within.
Einstein proving that matter = energy opened the door to matter no longer being seen as a “thing,” but a state of energy. This mathematical proof is the scientific pivot that makes Teilhard’s work possible. E = MC2 explodes the old-world view, because light is not secondary; it sets the conversion rate between being and becoming. Matter becomes history not substance, evolution is no longer accidental, it is energized, and the universe becomes dynamic, relational, and process based. Einstein didn’t spiritualize light, but he removed the metaphysical roadblock that prevented matter from being seen as alive-within. Enter Teilhard de Chardin. In the evolution of human consciousness, science and spirituality begin to converge in human consciousness (noogenesis).
Post noogenesis, my proposed synthesis model further amplifies, details, and differentiates the convergence and interiorization stages of this spiritualization process (enlightenment) as catalyzed, transformed, and transfigured by light universally, across global religious traditions. Light is the organizing intelligence of the universe, the God-of-the-Whole pressing toward physical, mental, and spiritual wholeness as Teilhard envisioned, from the “heart of matter.”
In the mature form of Teilhard’s idea, evolution is a process of increasing consciousness, a light-guiding direction embedded within the cosmic process. These notions, including the development of the noosphere, were already fully present in his writings by the 1930’s and early 1940’s. Teilhard’s rendering of his cosmogenic model has the primordial radiance of energy born in matter that complexifies: life emerges and interiority deepens; consciousness reflects upon itself, becoming conscious of itself in humans, and the world advances through convergence and love toward its point of unification in Omega.
In this evolving paradigm, light is not merely physical illumination, it is relational energy capable of self-organization leading toward interiority, awareness, and communion.
In the Beginning (“Let Light Be’)
All created form is “frozen” light energy which is not only transformable into matter, but in reverse order can be re-converted into that energy again (radial <—> tangential or quantum <—> classical or qualia <—> quanta). Everything comes from the same originating source comprised of the same fundamental elements. In the cosmos, celestials regulate the balance of the terrestrials. The moon regulates the oceans, and the sun regulates the seasons, generates life, and becomes food. And food becomes us. Since the first fiery burst of creation all objects are in orbits and cycles around something else, even galaxies, pivoting on an invisible axis or vortex (singularity) at their center (axis mundi). Each part of the whole bears the mark of a generative moment in time, creative in its energy (light), geometric architecture (spirals), and center points around which all things incline, converge, or orient. In humans, birth involves transitioning from womb-ecology to Earth-ecology via care givers, social systems, and psychosocial stages of development. Of note, unfolding spirals always tighten, hold, and energize from their center (Zero-point vortexes) to create and congeal their appropriate evolutionary stage, only to unfurl or expand again when ready to create the next iteration of themselves.
Again, the key to solving the mystery of the unified field lies in the sacred geometric architecture (spiral) and energy dynamics (light) hidden under the cosmic hood of the created order that connect inner and outer worlds. It is in this secret cosmic wheelhouse that new forms are created by the energy flow generated between opposites in a singularity that creates the necessary counter-rotating spin from whose spiraling vortex (vortices) all things in the visible created order emerge, evolve, and renew.
Following the moment of creation, the universe consists of and is connected to light and its manifestations, innermost outermost. As both panspychic intelligence (Spirit), locale (non-local/everywhere), and thing (energy/matter), light is the one in whom, and through which we are related and connected to everything. Hence, light is both personal (loving) and impersonal (mechanical) in its operations. Personal and compassionate with regard to its unfolding development in humans. Impersonal and mechanical (quantum mechanics) in the mathematical precision, seasons and cycles of nature and the cosmos. Such inclusively comprises the generative energy, geometric architecture, creative impetus, compassionate swaddling, and inspiration (spirare, “to breathe into”) of the God-of-the-Whole.
The story of the universe is the story of how the God-of-the-whole creates, renews, distributes, and transforms light energy via spiral dynamics at all scales, innermost and outermost. Unfolding spirals always tighten, hold, and energize from their center (Zero-point vortices) to create and congeal (“inhale”) each evolutionary stage, expanding (“exhale”) again when ready to create the next iteration of themselves. Everything everywhere is essentially sacred, spiritual, valuable and meaningful. At root all matter matters, is good, and interconnected.
Dual-Aspect Monad Dynamics (Creation’s Wheelhouse)
Gravity is the universal attraction that draws things to an organized, organizing, and integrating center point at all scales. It holds our atmosphere, creates tides, anchors planets to the sun, keeps us grounded in Earth’s magnetic fields (earthing), and centered in spiritual consciousness. Gravity and its counterpart in the interior life (gravitas) is a determinant in the swarming behaviors of organic life forms, as well as in the convergence and interiorization processes in spiritual awakening, formation, and transformation cycles consummating in Omega. Nature always holds and enfolds divine mysteries in the bosom of her sacred center points.
Dual-aspect monads like light and gravity, spirit and matter, or spirit and psyche (spirit-soul) are two aspects of a single reality that manifest as the mental (subjective-conscious) and the physical (objective-material), qualia and quanta aspects of creation’s bi-stable paradox and enigma. By definition, dual-aspect monads always come in pairs or paired opposites; one can’t exist one without the other in the whole-making process that begins in this hidden cosmic wheelhouse. A change in one aspect of a monad affects a change in the other. Changing a coin’s “heads side” (mental/spiritual) also changes the “tails” side (physical), because its the same coin.
The dual-aspect monad paradigm avoids the reductionist trap of saying the mind is just the brain (physicalism), or that the brain is just a product of the mind. Rather, like spirit and matter, they are two inseparable manifestations of the same underlying dual-aspect reality. This paradigm resolves and reconciles all paradoxes, and offers a framework to understand consciousness and the brain without resorting to scientific materialism or traditional dualism, bridging subjective experience with objective science.
I offer this as an explanation of why Einstein and physicists since have been unable to reconcile classical and quantum physics, religion and science, spirit and psyche, and other dual-aspect mysteries via the mind and brain alone, without third-eye spiritual awareness (unitive consciousness) informing them. Scientism is the dogmatic religion of scientific materialists, an investigative 17th century holdover frozen in time, one that hypocritically espouses intellectual honesty and openness in methodology and discovery without practicing same. By contrast, the language of the quantum/spiritual world is only spoken in fluent paradox (parables and poetry), only understood by the operational dynamics of generative, counter-rotating energy and information fields that create and evolve all things. It secrets shall neither be revealed nor understood via any other means or methods.
Spiritual Perception (Seeing in Wholes)
Spiritually unenlightened minds can neither see nor reconcile paradoxes (apparent contraries). Only an awareness of the seamless co-presence of opposites working together in a singularity enables the observer to see and interpret such phenomena and their reconciliation as organically unified. Such enables the seer and seen, subject and object to experience themselves as one and the same entity. That energy dynamic and transformation process in awareness reconciles the apparent perception of their separation. “Apparent” because in reality the perception of their separation (separation consciousness) is a bi-stable phenomenon like the bird fish images, as their co-inherent presence began at the “Let light Be” moment of creation, seamlessly unifying itself in-utero with every living fetus (see the video short above on how all things in creation, including in-utero life, begin in light).
On review, spirit and soul (psyche) are bi-stable (dual-aspect monads), two facets on one reality like the two sides of a coin, or the inside and outside of a glove — or like the fish-fowl duality pictured above. Differentiating the two in the interior life (insight) starts with broadening the bandwidth of one’s awareness that only fully develops and occurs in spiritual awakening and understanding (unitive consciousness).
The Enlightenment Process (spirituality as physics, and conversely)
The quantum world IS the spiritual world. In the observer effect of quantum physics, the mere act of observing something can change what is observed and can place one’s awareness (consciousness) in the reality of the fulfilled desire — in this case lifting awareness, perception, and thought to a higher plane. In practical terms, this means understaning that a heartfelt desire in pursuing spiritual truths is the gateway to breakthroughs in spiritual awareness and formation. All things consist of light energy, which consists of waves and particles. Particles like atoms pop in and out of the quantum field as waves pop and crop out of the ocean, the latter being an extension of the former, and of the same essence (salt water). Persistent seeking and study in pursuit of activating spiritual consciousness via the quantum field results in a wave function collapse of ordinary awareness into a particle manifestation of what the ancients referred to as the field of infinite possibilities (quantum field). Note, it’s the earnest pursuit of the heart that signals uncreated light (radial energy) in the spiritual plane that an expectant readiness exists to receive a spiritual breakthrough or impartation. At the exact moment when awareness extends itself in peak receptivity and expectation mode, it reaches a “tipping point” where its momentum or impact toward the spiritual plane suddenly accelerates, becomes involuntary, and difficult to stop. The process leading up to reaching critical mass anticipating breakthrough is similar to a full-term pregnancy when the contractions of labor begin, ushering in childbirth.
Again, reaching peak receptivity is directly associated with the electromagnetic signature of the heart (vs the mind/intellect), which physiologically emits a measurable energy field 5,000 times more powerful than the brain. According to the perennial religious tradition, upon reaching critical mass it is the EM signature of the heart that signals the spiritual plane (divine energy field) that communicates directly with what the ancients called the “field of all possibilities.” Today that generative energy and information field is known as the quantum field (Teilhard’s radial energy) that informs and creates the field of matter in space-time (Teilhard’s tangential energy). The nexus of counter-rotating radial and tangential energy is the wheelhouse dynamo that creates the visible world of matter via the invisible world of uncreated light (Spirit or consciousness). That nexus is known as the singularity, the liminal “sweet spot” (threshold) between the visible and invisible worlds, or classical and quantum physics. Once the breakthrough occurs, the spiritual energy informs the mind and brain which then process this regenerative experience and its illuminations. Only a breakthrough in higher order awareness via lower order wave function “collapse” via the heart –> mind –> brain, in that order, can transform consciousness to see, feel, and think along holistic lines. In essence, spiritual activation, enlightenment, and awareness involves a transformation of consciousness, allowing for spiritualized perception and thought that sees the entire created order as a holarchy, and the spirit, soul (psyche) and body swaddled in a spiritual matrix that creates and fills all things.
The moment awareness becomes permeable to energy from the spiritual plane, a breakthrough (rupture) occurs whose higher-frequency vibrations supercharge and tether consciousness, rendering it “spiritualized” or “enlightened.” As in the bi-stable image above, when this shift in awareness and perception occurs, what was once foreground in ordinary sensory awareness becomes background in spiritual consciousness, and vice versa, as the person (self) now has two centers of awareness; by way of the fish/birds illustration above, is capable of perceiving two realities as co-axial, fish and fowl alternately.
Sometimes this breakthrough of spiritual energy is a slow-burn process occurring gradually over time. In this instance, like the coming of daylight, the process has been underway awhile before the experiencer begins to notice it. In other instances, this radial energy comes storming through the gates of the heart like an invading army, while the experiencer stands aside as an enraptured and somewhat bewildered witness, initially relinquishing comfort, control, and any hope of being understood, even after they fully integrate the experience.
As the light comes in, and this energy pours through, the soul (psyche) and consciousness are lifted in a realm beyond this world, the experience of which is like living in a dream. It is not a dream, but the crossing over a threshold into a higher order consciousness in liminal space. Once primed, the spiritualization process continues on its own without constant external effort or investment unless hindered. Consciousness remains in the embrace of the spiritual field around whose center it begins to orbit, energize, and orient as the planets do the sun, or electrons their nucleus. Liminal space, the space between the visible and invisible worlds, becomes the new locus, center, and habitation of the spiritually transformed person (Homo spiralis, elektor 2.0) until further transfiguration occurs in the Homo spiralis, Omega (3.0) phase. The awakened enter the eternal much earlier than others, seeing, thinking, and acting by a power other than their own. They can now see things in a transcendent, whole, and healing way, “waking up” in this world instead of waiting for the next one, doing their little part to reveal it to others.
The above principles of spiritual transformation are derived from the perennial tradition (or perennial philosophy), with scientific updates. That tradition is a perspective shared by all major world religions regarding a single, universal, and timeless divine truth, often called a common Source, Absolute, or what I term the God-of-the-Whole. It posits that while outward religious rituals and doctrines differ, their inner core and spiritual dynamics point to the same unchanging processes and wisdom universally. Accordingly, my synthesis model extends, identifies, and further details the missing dimensions of Teilhard’s “ultra physics” that anticipated a future time when key aspects of his evolutionary model might be added via advances in science. With the advent of quantum studies, that future has arrived. My proposed model identifies the missing pieces, as (1) light energy, the cosmoge catalyst and flyhweel of the convergence-interiorization process, Alpha to Omega (2) overlapping quantum fields, (3) counter-rotational, generative electromagentic energy and information dynamics (4) and their singularities, (4) sacred geometry as cosmic architecture (5) spin-spiraling dynamics (spiral/phi-spirals) joining inner and outer worlds, (6) dual aspect monads, (7) incarnational bi-stability (in spirit-matter, spirit-soul (psyche), spirit-body), (8) the God-of-the-Whole that comprises and expresses as the whole (holarchy) at all scales, (9) a differentiated taxonomic scale: re: Homo spiralis (10) naming the universal energy that initiates anbd guides the process of spiritualization (enlightenment) and formation in spiirt-souls across religious traditions.
Of note, a parallel process occurs at the molecular level when an atom or molecule gains an electrical charge, turning it into an ion. The atom or molecule becomes charged or “ionized” by the electron’s binding energy. As lower laws reflect higher ones, in effect, the spiritualization of consciousness occurs when Spirit or spiritual energy “ionizes” or supercharges its soul mate from its Zero-point vortex (magnetic still-point), binding the psyche it annexes to or “marries.”
In Teilhard’s mystical tradition the universal body (Church) of the enlightened ones is expressed in matrimonial terms as the “bride” of the incarnated Logos (Word), with the Logos himself as her bridegroom. Spirit and psyche, male and female, yin and yang are dual-aspect monads that seek their completion, unity, and reconciliation in each other everywhere.
Once regenerated, bound, and tethered by spiritual energy, consciousness and the soul (psyche) are open to become further energized, informed, and/or inspired in this unique evolutionary journey and transformation process, from awakening to slow growth to more accelerated exponential growth over time, aided by experience, study, and practicing the spiritual disciplines.
Beyond Noogenesis (identity 1.0 vs identity 2.0 and 3.0)
Beyond noogenesis this psychic energy converges toward its new center in the spiritual plane, further interiorizing via the magnetic pull of Logos, which itself is bound and tethered by the magnetic orbit of Omega, the Cosmic Center of Centers. Each stage advances and transcends into another larger, more inclusive stage, nested there as in a Russian Doll or Chinese Box. In this way all evolutionary stages, and with them time, are not moving forward, they are winding down like the mainspring of a clock whose space-time gears and pendulum at the last become motionless, gathered in a place that will know and register time no more.
In cosmogenic evolution, the restless hunger and thirst for deeper meaning and whole-making in the spiritual plane parallels the instinctive rooting reflex of newborns in search of their mother’s nurturing breast, a crying out and scurrying back to the eternal from whence it came via the mother, who is transitionally the symbolic “object” of same. In psychosocial development, other significant attachment patterns occur whose transitional object(s) are persons, places, things, and activities, until awakened and reunited with their ultimate attachment in Source again. As a frightened child seeking comfort in a world of transience, Teihard attachment ladder began with a piece or iron, shifted to collecting stones, later moving to fossils before realizing that the “object permanence” he sought in a passing world was eternal, hidden in the “within of things” in the “heart of matter.”
Each child’s journey begins at the zero-point (vortex) of a spiral that is connected to a series of ascending spirals where the end of one begins another. Each successive spiral (stage/meme) begins in a “cocoon” stage that begins to feel dark, restrictive, and solitary, a “dark night of the soul” necessary for preparing and transitioning to yet another level of development, more meaningful attachment behaviors, and inner transformations toward an unimaginable destination, an unrequited longing “somewhere over the rainbow, way up high.”
As in psychosocial stages of development, once the spiritual awakening and identity stage become stabilized, solidified, and established, it will similarly approach its next and ultimate stage in Omega via a similar process. In this stage the totality of the human being (body, soul, and spirit) becomes transfigured entirely by and in light, creating a new phylum altogether, transforming from Homo spiralis, sapiens (1.0), to Homo spiralis, elektor (2.0), to transfiguring in Homo spiralis, omega (3.0). Thus ends the cosmogenic evolutionary process from matter to spirit, increasing in complexity and consciousness: Geosphere (inorganic matter) —> Biosphere (life emergence) —> Noosphere (thinking layer of mind/culture) —> culminating in the Omega Point, a divine convergence of all matter and consciousness into a unified, personal God (Cosmic/Universal Christ).
Along spirit-science lines, the above energy transformations are the result a dual-aspect energy dynamic by which radial energy (light) infuses the soul (psyche) and body with its regenerative energy and inspiration/information inducing power. In theology, this transformational regeneration (marriage) of the soul (psyche) by Spirit is known as theosis, the process by which Spirit impregnates matter, creates new life, and becomes conscious of itself in humans. Enlightenment occurs the moment the monad recognizes itself in Homo spiralis, elektor (1.0), confirming its evolutionary status as duly spiritualized — newly transformed to Homo spiralis, elector (2.0), the dual-aspect monad of light and gravity first become aware of itself as a light being (self-identity) and light worker (service).
Enlightenment and spiritual transformation (theosis) are ongoing interactive processes on Earth, whereby spiritual consciousness signals the mind and brain to experience, process, and differentiate ordinary (sensory) awareness and self-identity (1.0) from its newly awakened spiritual one (2.0), later transitioning to its 3.0 destination in Omega. This involves an ongoing conversion process in perception and thought that is different than ordinary awareness, conditioned consciousness, and linear thinking in a 3D status-quo world. Throughout, inner and outer worlds are reconciled by the same co-axial energy (spiritualized consciousness) that binds them. The experience of same is like the difference between seeing creation as divided (partitioned) and in 3D, or as it is and always has been, seamlessly whole in 4D, a more comprehensive way of seeing.
Dormant or activated, aware or unaware, each dimension and sense of self, natural (1.0) or spiritual (2.0, 3.0), are distinct from each other like vine and branch, but are likewise inseparable. As with matter, Spirit is organically grafted into soul (psyche) as leaven is in bread, expressed as “spirit-soul.” At birth each comes naturally “packaged” with the other as a dual-aspect monad. They remain one and seamlessly undivided in the interior life, with the spiritual having potential to activate later on, usually following psychosocial development, lived experience, epiphany, and/or a disruptive crisis. Spiritual awakening begins the disambiguation process of differentiating and reconciling the tension of the natural and spiritual dimensions without collapsing either into the other — the very definition of unitive consciousness. The spiritually enlightened are no longer “third-eye blind,” because becoming whole effectuates seeing in wholes.
In the awakening, renewal, and differentiation process the spiritually aware self becomes foreground (figural) and the sense-bound self becomes background, but occasionally flip-flops in bi-stable fashion, exchanging positions until the former crystallizes and solidifies in a more prevailing and consistent way. The spiritually awakened person is now “amphibious,” an inhabitant of two worlds — sense-bound and spiritual — and the interior battle over their supremacy begins, one that involves utilizing spiritual practices that accelerate the conversion process. Paralleling psychosocial stages in development, this gradual unfolding process overcomes the old and transitions toward the new, an advance and transcend, progression and regression choreography toward Omega. And like psychosocial development, spiritual development is not without its crises, peaks, valleys, and setbacks, all integral aspects of the transformational process.
Bi-stable Reconciliation in Cosmogenic Evolution
On reconciling the fish-fowl (spirit or psyche) ambiguity question in bi-stable perception and thought, there is an “excluded middle,” third option, or transitional stage — as newly regenerated Homo spiralis, sapiens transforms to Homo spiralis, elector (light being/worker). The transition state allows for both images (or centers) to coexist as a single enlightened image that accommodates to both worlds at the same time, material and spiritual The third option holds both spirit and psyche in reconciled tension without collapsing either domain.
To illustrate, as a third option the reconciled bi-stable fish/fowl images at the top would look like a “winged fish,” a hybrid animal species neither wholly fish or wholly fowl, but both.
As in noogenesis, this transitional staging process toward Omega stabilizes the spiritual process in the interior life, until the spirit-soul begins to approach its Omega Point destination. Here, the human “caterpillar” (enlightened stage) in its Homo elector chrysalis (2.0) quickens, preparing to become a butterfly (transfigured stage) in Omega (3.0). When complete, however, this unique metamorphosis is no longer human at all. Not in the way caterpillar and butterfly transformations occur, which never changes their status and identity as members of the animal kingdom. By contrast, via transfiguration the congealed and transformed energy from the previous stages, having reached Omega, is an end-of-the line perfection that transcends the human domain entirely, a full-fledged inhabitant of a kingdom not of this world. The journey doesn’t get any better than nirvana. Omega (3.0) is metahuman, a new creature (phylum) altogether with no traces of the reptilian or mammalian brain to subterfuge cortical functions and resist the indwelling Spirit’s promptings— s/he is now Homo spiralis, omega (3.0) totally transfigured into light, converged and interiorized in the full unfettered image of its Maker.
Omega involves the highest level of the transformation-conversion process, from its 1.0-3D, and 2.0-4D awareness stages, to its total transfiguration as a fully evolved 3.0-5D being. As human infancy gradually absorbs into childhood, and adolescence into adulthood, the spiritualization process is now complete in its conversion from –> primate beings with carbon bodies who think (1.0) –> spiritually enlightened humans with carbon bodies (2.0) –> totally transfigured spiritual beings with ethereal bodies (3.0).
Transformation and Transfiguration in Nature and Spirituality
In Teilhard’s religious tradition, Omega has its parallel and foretaste in the gospels, when the incarnate Logos gave his disciples a “sneak preview” of his glorified body and identity. The God-of-the-Whole appeared in transfigured human form to Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration (Mt. Tabor) as a totally transfigured light being whose spirit body and illuminating presence were so scintillating the disciples had to shield their eyes.
The personal and cosmogenic spiritual transformation and later transfiguration process have their parallels in the laws of physics regarding energy transformation. To illustrate, a log placed on a campfire is gradually consumed and transformed by the fire, so transformed and transfigured as to become the fire itself, dissolving the log’s material form. This transformation of matter back into heat and light re-releases its stored (frozen) energy from a hundred summer suns (as source) back into the atmosphere. It also has its parallel in agriculture, whereby a planted seed dissolves (dies to) its present form without losing its energy, the latter taking root and form in its next developmental stages. In its prior form the seed never sees the tree, it becomes the tree by virtue of its dissolution. Same energy and transformation process expressed in a different transformational forms.
Likewise with the natural self in its transition (transformation) to the spiritual self, the old self gradually dissolves/dies while retaining its energy, which in the dissolution/resurrection process allows that same light energy to transform and transcend to more advanced vibrational expression(s) in higher order consciousness. One cannot not exist in some form or fashion in natural or spiritual transform and transcend cycles, as the soul and/or its energy always move on. The same laws of physics apply as they pertain to the manifestation of light energy accordingly, expressed in either material, mental, and/or spiritual vibratory form by the ontological principle — as above so below, as within so without.
Like his spiritual Master, Teilhard valued seeing (vision) as the essential byproduct of spiritual awakening and development, centrally tied to spiritual awakening which ushers in unitive consciousness and spiritual sight. Along visionary lines, a penetrating unitive insight prompted him to conclude that “I am not a human being having a spiritual experience, I am a spiritual being having a human experience.”
Though Spirit inhabits and illuminates all material things, in pure form its light is independent of things (thing-ness), save for its Source, returning to its formless state in Source prior to Omega upon separating from its material existence in physical death. The enlightened mortal (carbon body) (2.0) is now fully replaced by a transfigured immortal one in light, Homo spiralis, omega (3.0). Of note, in Teilhard’s tradition the Cosmic Logos (Cristos) identified himself universally as “The Light of the World.”
A person’s more ordinary sense of self that develops along psychosocial lines (1.0) is significant in itself having reached a developmental milestone. However, its corresponding stage of “self” realizes only part of its potential, half the full story, with greater potential for transitioning to a more inclusively aware being (2.0) on its way to transfiguration in Omega (3.0). The process begins on Earth and continues its trans-medium journey following physical death, or by having reached its apex following personal or cosmogenic evolutionary trajectories on Earth over deep time. Such can also occur more radically via any of a variety of unanticipated conversion (auto-cosmology) experiences that hasten the evolutionary process.
Disambiguating whether one’s self or identity, activated or dormant, aware or unaware, is either human (1.0) or divine (2.0) is complicated by dualistic thinking (separation consciousness) native to the natural self, mind, and brain. The previous “either-or, black and white, fish or fowl” binary perception and thought patterns, having long been instrumental in developing 3D personality and conditioned consciousness over decades, do not yield their hold and centrality easily in the interior life. Yet in the end they eventually give way to the new, as all things that evolve must.
The answer to the question whether humans are born “fish or fowl,” whether identity ultimately lies in the natural or spiritual world, must favor the spiritual (2.0)(3.0) measured not by our transient and perishable outer form, or its preliminary interior stages of personal or cosmogenic development. Rather, it lies in its eternal origin and co-inherent spiritual nature from the outset in light, because light (spirit/consciousness) becomes soul (psyche), and body (matter), before turning back into light again in transfigured form. So radial energy (light) first emerges as spirit-soul and material body in that order, and from there energizes our developmental trajectory, eventually supercharging our evolutionary destination throughout, Alpha to Omega.
Wholeness, and with it unitive consciousness reveal that at no time is there separation between the natural and spiritual, visible and invisible worlds, though the latter remains dormant until its awakening time (see video at top). In the interim, its evolution manifests in more preliminary forms, as the life of a tree unfolds from seed —> root —> branch —> flower —> fruit, the latter containing seeds of the next generation. And so the cycles and spirals of creation and re-creation continue in perpetuity.
A version of this mystery is seen in the animal kingdom, where certain species of fish are amphibious. These fish have lungs, breathe air, walk on mud flats, and even climb trees. Likewise in the “amphibious” world of matter and spirit, everywhere seamlessly co-present to one another in bi-stable overlapping fields of energy and information. Matter and spirit ever seek to envolve toward higher experessions of themselves in personal development and deep time cosmic evolution, a return or “homecoming” from whence they came. As always, the seamless interconnectivity between higher and lower, visible and invisible worlds is ultimately drawn and harvested by Omega, guided by the perennial ontological principle that unites beginning and end, Alpha and Omega, and all paired opposites.
Hence, nothing is more natural than the supernatural, or more supernatural than the natural for those able to see and experience both worlds as they are, not divided according to the unawakened mind and brain (flesh), but as one and undivided as they were created, and have always existed save for separation consciousness and the binary thinking and perception it dictates. Higher-order reality and consciousness are naturally veiled, discoverable only when divinity as dual-aspect monad is able to see itself mirrored in human consciousness for the first time. With vision corrected by awakening to the invisible world, subject and object, seer and seen are joyfully recognized as one and the same entity.
A Cross-Religious Pattern of Spiritual Awakening and Development
The above patterns and processes can be confirmed as universal, first framed in the process theology and cosmogenic model of Teilhard de Chardin whose cosmogenic vision theoretically democrcatized religion and science. He did so in religion by referencing the Christ as cosmic (universal and ambient) in nature and substance. And he did so in science by introducing the notion that spirit and matter are one and undivided in a cosmic unified field. Such was deduced from his own religious tradition, an understanding of the God-of-the-Whole (the Cosmic or Universal Logos), a consequence of Spirit inhabiting matter from the moment of creation (the Big Bang). This state of affairs was antecedent to the creation of humans, long before religious affiliations ever laid claim to its non-local energies along tribal lines. Teilhard referred to the embodiment of Spirit in matter as dwelling universally in the “heart of matter” (the within of things) with no other distinction.
Later references to divinity as pan-psychic in nature were made by theologians Matthew Fox (Cosmic Christ), Richard Rohr (Universal Christ), and recently by this author (Ambient Christ).
Process theology attempts to reconcile science and religion, embracing the notion that nothing in space-time stands still, and that the universe isn’t made of static objects but of interconnected entities, experiences, and events constantly interacting and “becoming.”
At the level of process there is a striking convergence across religious and wisdom traditions, even though the methods, symbols, doctrines, and experiences differ widely.
It is primarily at the level of process in both personal and cosmogenic evolution, Alpha to Omega, that the existence and value of all religious books and teachings are best measured and valued. That is, by the time-tested blueprint and standard that teaches others the universal science, art, and practice of becoming spiritualized, regenerated into a higher order of enlightenment and understanding that catalyzes the entire transformative trajectory over a lifetime. Toward that end the anthology of books in the Scriptures and other holy books find uninitiated seekers in our time put off and bogged down by monotonous history, religious formalism, out of date science, and flat out violence.
Arguments have been made proposing that the incarnate Logos of New Testament theology came not to found a new religion called Christianity, but to initiate others and the world into this tranformative process, one soul at a time. It is in that vein, and toward that understanding that a map detailing key aspects of the process has been assembled below. When traditions are compared to what happens to the person in spiritual awakening and development, not what they believe, a shared arc appears in every major tradition, as follows:
1). Ordinary Identity Destabilizes: Across traditions, transformation begins with some form of disruption; suffering, dissatisfaction, moral crises, or existential disquiet whereby the ego or socially conditioned self becomes unstable.
2.) Turning/Reorientation: Followed by a decisive inward or upward turn of attention, which is not yet enlightenment, it involves a turning or conversion of orientation. Attention shifts from external control to inner truth, from possession to meaning, from self-assertion to self-examination. Energy previously used to defend identity is redirected toward seeking higher truths.
3.) Unlearning/Purification: This ushers in the most universal, and least romanticized stage, an unlearning process involving a questioning and deconstruction of the previous sense of self, sometimes referred to as the false-self depending on its degree of authenticity. The process in this stage is purgative, a humbling process of pride, fear, and illusion, and an awareness that transformation requires natural self-diminishment and subtraction, not an addition or accumulation of a belief system as dogma or ideology.
4.) Illumination/Insight: Here, something qualitatively new appears, where direct knowing replaces conceptual belief, and perception, thought, and experience are no longer filtered primarily through the natural self (egoic) narrative. This experience reorganizes perception itself (figure/ground shift) that is not merely emotional, or purely intellectual. Non-dual awareness and experiential unity begin to occur, as does insight into impermanence, emptiness, or divine presence, knowing by participation and experience rather than thought, faith, and belief.
5.) Integration/Embodiment: In this phase truth becomes lived, not just known. Across traditions spiritual awakening and enlightenment are considered incomplete unless embodied. In this way compassion becomes authentic and spontaneous, ethics becomes natural, not imposed, service flows without self-importance, ordinary life and sense of self life are reintegrated. The transformation experience culminates in relational presence, not escape.
The teachings of all major religious traditions are inspired, have meaning, and lend perspective. But at the level of process, those parts that are the most useful are those scattered, loosely organized parts which combined and condensed give persons a clear map and pointed instruction on how to get there, provide the outer and inner authority to do so, and something about the stages and progressive-regressive choreography of growth and setback central to its winding path, hill and valley journey and experiences. Hill and valley because the process involves getting the point, losing it again in doubt, fear, temptation, and trial, as well as restoring it in recovery and restoration. Along with the guidance of those on the path who have attained wisdom that only experience can teach, the process involves learning how to navigate the ecstatic highs, harrowing lows, and all snags in between that mirror human life, and other worthwhile endeavors.
Core Processes Shared Across Traditions
Stripped to the essentials, spiritual transformation involves:
— dis-identification from the conditioned mind/constructed self
— reorientation of attention and value
— purification/purgation of perception and desires
— direct insight into reality or ultimate ground of a deeper order
— immediate experience of that ground without human mediation
— embodiment of that insight in life and action
What differs is:
— substance and process, not style, form or belief system
— the metaphysical language (God, emptiness, Tao, Being)
— the practices (prayer, meditation, devotion, ethics)
— the symbols and narratives
— the cultural framing of the endpoint
The convergence pattern does not imply that all experiences feel the same, or that doctrines are interchangeable, or that paths are equally suitable for all people.
It does imply that human consciousness, when transformed beyond ego-centered organization, tends to reorganize in similar ways around an interiorized spiritual center, regardless of cultural or religious frame.
Summary:
Viewing religions as different maps, the interior terrain of transpersonal self-identity and transformation appears remarkably consistent. While the methods, metaphors, and icons on each map vary, the process of becoming less self-centered and more attuned to others, nature, and the world at large occurs in a broadening bandwidth of spiraling compassion, wisdom, and awareness.
What will follow in this series will explain how the above framework aligns and compares with the proposed spiral paradigm, not as a fixed ladder or hierarchy, keeping it process-level not doctrinal or sectarian.
About the Author
Joseph C. Masterleo, LCSW-DCSW, is a clinical social worker in private practice in Syracuse NY, and Rockledge FL. His half-century of service in the mental health care field includes faith-based counseling and psychotherapy, with an emphasis on psycho-spiritual integration. His subspecialty involves developing a novel paradigm for the synthesis of science, religion, and psychology, identifying the energy and geometric patterns that connect the quantum world with space-time, inner and outer worlds. His model explains how spirit and matter can co-exist as two facets of one reality in a unified field, dissolving the walls of partition between previously siloed disciplines. Inspired by the writings of Thomas Merton (ecumenism), Teilhard de Chardin (synthesis), Thomas Berry (ecotheology), Nikola Telsa (electromagnetism), Richard Rohr (Cosmic Christ), Ilia Delio (christogenesis) and others, his objective is to tell a new, future-looking story for the Ecozoic Age, one that forms a connecting bridge between the biblical story of creation, modern science, and ancient cosmologies. His columns on these and related subjects have appeared on websites such as The Center for Christogenesis, Progressive Christianity, and in newsprint via The Goodnews Paper, the Syracuse Post Standard, and the Syracuse Sports Magazine, where he comments on sports as reflecting the best and worst of American character and culture.
