This webinar will introduce the parameters of a religious naturalist orientation, which is deeply related to Matthew Fox’s Creation Spirituality but steps away from theistic frames. I will present my understandings of what is entailed by being religious, and will explore how these sensibilities can be elicited and nurtured by our understandings of natural reality, lifting up our kinship with all beings and the responsibilities engendered by our interdependence.
Ursula Goodenough is Professor of Biology Emerita at Washington University where her research focused on genetics, cell biology and evolution. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. She and others are developing what we call a religious naturalist orientation https://religious-naturalist-association.org and a new edition of her book, The Sacred Depths of Nature http://sacreddepthsofnature.com, describes her understandings of this orientation. She retired to Chilmark in 2017 and has five children and nine grandchildren.
