This looks great Fred. I tried to play the audio but was unable to. I used Chrome as the browser, as it suggests but still had trouble. Are you getting it to work. I wrote to both Tracy and Halsey, inviting them to join the Network. It would be neat for them to join your group. Why don’t you invite them too!!!

It is necessary to use the iphone app to listen and record voices about the subject. This artist worked for a group a scientists and experts from New Zealand i believe. http://www.thehouseofwonder.org/projects/a-walk-through-deep-time/
Sure, i should invite people but i don’t know who is who and i need to have a closer look and do it.
thanks 🙂-
Terrific Fred. It looks like an important resource. Let me know what you think after further review!!!!

I didn’t know it was possible to listen and record our voice from your website, i only saw the app. I see like two interesting options for your collaborative voice recording platform. 1. making a recording session at the next IBHA event ( http://ibhanet.org ) , the next one will be in Amsterdam in 2016. 2. inviting the Deep Time Journey community…[Read more]

Dear Trudy,
Let’s have a meeting. I’d like to know more about your ideas for the Network and IBHA. Just as Fred says, this may be a powerful way for people to share ideas and get to know each other in a more personal/immediate way. I’ll write to you by email. Jennifer

Geocaching, it’s about hiding a box somewhere in the countryside and share the coordinates through the internet or a smartphone app. In the case of the Earth Cache, the creator of the cache drives the walkers to a special place to unfold the story from the box, it can be a text, pictures, objects, anything useful to tell the geologic story of the…[Read more]

I’ve met people while hiking who were Geocaching. Adding the Story of the Universe to the object to be found is a great idea. Introducing the gaming aspect helps to bring in young people too. Thanks Fred for letting us know about this.

It is also possible to insert a voice inside the geocaching box, using 10S audio chip as we did in this project called Titania: https://vimeo.com/47928528

Despite it is not a outdoor learning walk with technology, this project represents a intelligent way to think the use of mobile technology to help to preserve rain forests all over the world. It is true that technology generally intercedes between direct experiences with nature but it is not because of technology itself but because of the way we use it.

Deep Time Education at the Secondary Level 11 years, 10 months agoAlthough most Montessori schools are private, the school where I work is a public charter school, so a persistent challenge for us involves synthesizing Montessori philosophy and practice with the antithesis of state standards and standardized testing. In other words, our identity depends on our staff finding creative ways to stay true to our…[Read more]

Dear Kyle,
Fantastic that you started this group! A person you may want to contact is DTJN member Dr. Betsy Coe of the Houston Montessori Center. They have a high school program and are using Big History. The other person who comes to mind is Ginger MacKensie at Xavier in Ohio. She’s not a member of the Network yet but I will write to her…[Read more]
